あきらめ【諦め】

〔断念〕 《文》 abandonment; renunciation; 〔仕方がないと観念すること〕 《文》 resignation; reconciliation.

●あきらめがいい人 a good loser; a person who doesn't make a fuss about 《losing》; a person who accepts 《failure》 gracefully [with good grace]; somebody who accepts [bows to] the inevitable; somebody who knows how to resign himself to his lot

・彼を告訴しないのか. 君もあきらめがいいね. So you're not going to sue him? You're a good loser, I see.

・君はいつもあきらめが早い. You're always quick to give up.

・あきらめが悪い人 a bad [poor] loser; a person who cannot accept the inevitable; a person who doesn't give up easily [gracefully, with good grace]; somebody who quarrels with his lot

・彼はまだ審判に抗議しているよ. あきらめが悪いね. He's still arguing with the umpire. He doesn't know when to give up, does he?
